Rumor had it that it was 8°. Michael Pacquin, SCCA Hawaii Region, had pretty much outfitted his fellow Region members with “arctic gear,” along with some “wool socks” from Alaska to finish off Avery Tsui’s “warmth factor.” Sixteen motorsport enthusiasts arrived at the Alaska State Fairgrounds to help make the Inaugural Challenge between the Arctic Alaska Region and the Hawaii Region come to fruition for RallyCross.
Sanctioned by the Arctic Alaska Region of the Sports Car Club of America, the E Komo Mai Qunsha RallyCross took place at the Alaska State Fairgrounds, Palmer, Alaska, Saturday, November 16th.
The seed for the competition was planted by Cheryl Babbe when Avery came to Alaska for RallyCross and Road Rally Safety Steward training. He also got his first seat time in Robbie Robertson’s Subie during our RallyCross at Third Avenue. Long talked about – it took four years – yet five members of the Hawaii Region traveled North to Alaska for the E Komo Mai Qunsha Rally Challenge, which consisted of a RallyCross and Road Rally. The Ravens and Qunsha Road Rally took place on Sunday, November 17th.
Thank you to Rebecca Bastien, Bill Demming, Kevin Cose, and Cheryl Babbe for hosting the five Hawaii SCCA members in their homes and cabin over the four days. The fifth member of the Challenge, Evan Townsend, provided two cars for the competition in place of lodging! It was wonderful that loaner cars were supplied for Avery Tsui (Bill Demming), Michael Pacquin (Rebecca Bastien), Elayn Man and Chris Carris (Evan Townsend), and Taro Nobusawa (Kevin Cose).
